[COLLAGE] Abel Iloco

Magdalena Gamayo is a producer of "inabels." Inabel is the technical term for woven cloth made on an Ilocano wooden pedal loom and characterized by its durability, simplicity, and functionality. Abel Iloco is a woven cloth made by hand. This Ilocos textile is so valuable that during the Spanish colonization, it was used to pay tribute in the form of fabric and gold. The weaver's ordinary life experiences are used to create traditional Inabel patterns. Intricate woven designs feature human and animal images prominently. Author of work: Villanueva, Jasmine R.
